Anna Palmer
Anna Palmer was born in 1962, and gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in painting at Elam, School of Fine Arts, Auckland in 1983.
She was a trainee curator at the Fisher Gallery, Pakuranga, and then she worked as a fashion designer and artist, and has been a professional artist since 1989.
Palmer's work is a celebration of colour, form and the energy created by their juxtaposition. She draws primarily in conte pastel on black paper, focussing on jagged landforms against the sea.
'Pastel provides me with immediacy of expression and intensity of colour.' Palmer likes to contrast earth colours with bright acrid blues, purples and oranges, with the intense dramatic light of late afternoon. 'I like to create a sense of space in my images by overlapping several fields of vision'.
