Mary Taylor
Mary Taylor was born in Devonport and studied at Auckland University and Massey University. She was formerly a teacher, and has worked as a professional artist since 1983.
Taylor is best known for her hand-coloured etchings, but she also paints, writes and illustrates books. One of her books is "Old Blue: the Rarest Bird in the World" for which she won a non-fiction award in the 1994 AIM Book Awards.
Taylor lives on Auckland's West Coast, and her works draw inspiration from New Zealand's heritage architecture, flora and fauna, landscape, and seascape. Her work is decorative, rich, ornate and celebratory but always grounded in realism.
